  I got to make this family tree for the Battaglias* 65th anniversary. It was a real puzzle to layout and I enjoyed every moment of it! It took a lot of iterative sketches to find the right layout to make sure that the recipient names were where the eye went first and that the generations still grew from them. I loved all the problem solving this project had me doing to get it all to fit together. I love painting & lettering, but the problem-solving may be my favorite part of my job.⠀

I have worked with Katie several times. She is imaginative, inventive and incredibly talented. She created a beautiful family tree that was a gift for my in-law’s 65th wedding anniversary. We met several times to discuss ideas, and she was very communicative and open to my suggestions and thoughts throughout the process. It was a treat to see how the mind of an illustrator/calligrapher balances letters and images into a marvelous piece. She even provided suggestions when choosing the right frame. The family tree now hangs in pride of place at my in-law’s house and has received many compliments from relatives and friends.

If you have the chance to work with Katie I cannot recommend her enough.
